What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

Positioned between residential inpatient treatment and individual therapy, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) offer a structured, semi-intensive level of care for the treatment of Substance Use Disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders.

IOPs allow clients to live at home during recovery; and provide a more highly structured program than standard outpatient programs. This allows clients to continue normal daily activities, including family commitments, work or school, as they participate in nine hours of group therapy each week. This multi-disciplinary treatment approach is highly effective for supporting those with substance use disorders and addictions.

IOP may be the best treatment option for those who qualify AND:

  • Have completed medical detox and for whom a lower level of care is appropriate

  • Don’t require around the clock medical supervision

  • Have work, family, or other responsibilities that require their presence

  • Can agree to adhere to program requirements

About SagePoint IOP

Sagepoint Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

SagePoint Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP) is Elk Grove's premier provider of therapeutic, evidence-based, and trauma informed services for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders (dual diagnosis). SagePoint IOP's multidisciplinary treatment program is designed to provide integrated and high quality therapeutic interventions for adults 18+ diagnosed with a substance use disorder or addiction. Our experienced and highly credentialed clinical team prides itself on providing discrete, high-quality care in a relaxed, welcoming, and empowering environment. SagePoint IOP provides clients with the skills and tools for managing harmful substance use behaviors, as well as depression, anxiety, emotions, social interactions and other aspects to assist them in their recovery process.

SagePoint IOP, located in the greater Sacramento area, enables adults with substance use disorders and dual diagnosis to receive services they need while maintaining their current employment and residence. The program meets three times per week for three hours each day. These may include services provided during weekday or evenings, with interventions delivered by licensed psychotherapists or Master's level clinicians. The anticipated length of stay is 30-90 days, or as criteria is met.

The program can function as a step-down program from partial hospitalization, detoxification, or residential services; may be used to prevent or minimize the need for a more intensive and restrictive level of treatment; and is considered to be more intensive and integrated than traditional outpatient services. Linking clients with follow-up outpatient continuing care is a significant priority during the transition and discharge process.

Before entering our program, you will be given a comprehensive psychological evaluation to determine the appropriate treatment for your clinical needs. For your convenience and to best accommodate your family, work, and life demands, we offer two different program tracks:

  •  AM Intensive Outpatient Program is a 3 hour, 3 days a week program offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • PM Intensive Outpatient Program is a 3 hour, 3 days a week treatment, available on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from  5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Our individualized approach offers a comprehensive treatment planning system that will help you regain control of your life and succeed in your future goals. When you complete the program, you can either continue working with our outpatient team or we can provide you with the psychiatric and psychotherapy referrals you need to ensure your continued care.

Many who struggle with addictions and mental health challenges often feel exhausted and uncertain about how to regain control over their lives. At SagePoint IOP, we know that individuals possess reservoirs of strength and resilience that they often do not know exist.

Structure of Typical Intensive Outpatient Programs

  • SagePoint IOP groups meet 3 days a week for 3 hours per session.

  • Clients are expected to regularly attend community support groups outside of the program hours.

  • The American Society of Addiction Medicine recommends the duration of IOP treatment to last up to 90 days.

  • IOPs are often effective for those not requiring the higher level of care provided by residential treatment programs or hospitals.

  • Located in Elk Grove, CA (Sacramento County).

Our  comprehensive IOP program in Elk Grove, CA gives clients the option to attend day groups or evening groups. The program is designed to enable adults with substance use or addiction problems to receive the services they need while living at home and maintaining commitments to family, work or school.

Upon admittance to the program, clients meet with their primary therapist to develop an individualized treatment plan focusing on long-term recovery. Their therapist will help them integrate into the group, where they can build the support system they need to succeed in recovery. Clients find their group participation, where everyone feels safe to share their feelings and struggles, to be an invaluable component of the recovery process.
